Communications Manager

JWI is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated individual with experience and demonstrable skills in communications, social media including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, writing and editing for the Web and website content management.

The Communications Manager will be responsible for developing the voice for all aspects of the organization’s online presence. The ideal candidate will also have experience managing online brand marketing, fundraising and advocacy outreach campaigns, with a strong background in social media. Tasks require a strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines. This person will also be responsible for crafting email marketing and online outreach campaigns in addition to writing, editing and publishing website content. The ideal candidate will also have press experience and know how to craft a press release and pitch stories. The Communications Manager will report directly to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications and will work closely with the program and marketing departments of the organization. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Build JWI’s visibility among current and potential partners and supporters through online activity
  • Oversee organization’s social media presence, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
  • Develop and manage content for organization’s website, using CharityEngine software and Squarespace, in addition to maintaining and creating project-specific microsites
  • Create and manage email campaigns, including writing copy and brainstorming subject lines and calls-to-action
  • Collaborate with program and marketing departments on developing and executing outreach plans for JWI programs and content
  • Coordinate online projects across departments, utilizing organizational content calendars for emails and online campaigns and actions
  • Create graphics for social media to support Director of Design and Communications, as needed
  • Copyedit and proofread all content for Web
  • Track and report metrics for email, Web and social media
  • Keep current with emerging technologies and tools through relevant blogs, listservs, webinars and events

Required Skills Include:

  • B.A. and 2-4 years of applicable online communications experience
  • Exceptional writing, communication and organizational skills
  • Eye for Web and graphic design desired
  • Knowledge of HTML and experience with CMS and CRM
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Understanding of Web and social media analytics and their application-Proven ability to work effectively within a cross-departmental team
  • Working knowledge of AP Style

Development Manager

JWI is currently seeking a Development Manager to join our dynamic team.

Responsibilities Include:

Coordinate, oversee and support the organization's fundraising efforts, including overseeing our annual gala, conducting research and outreach to foundation and corporate institutions for organizational support and helping to identify and cultivate major gifts. This position will work directly with and support, the Senior Management Team, to identify and solicit new sources of funding while helping to create and implement strategies that will contribute to the achievement of aggressive fundraising goals.

The Development Manager should be fluent in new fundraising tools as well as possess a thorough understanding of current philanthropy and donor giving including individuals, foundations and corporations, with particular knowledge and experience in the Jewish community. Issue areas include combating domestic and sexual violence, promoting long-term economic security for women and girls and encouraging young leadership and mentoring. JWI's philanthropic initiatives include our Book by Book Capital Campaign to build 100 children's libraries in domestic violence shelters and our Mother's Day Flower Project - delivering flowers and other items to more than 200 shelters nationwide.

Qualifications Include:

  • B.A. degree with at least 3-5 years in fundraising/development
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • Strong and effective communication skills
  • Experience with grant writing
  • Familiarity with event planning and major donor fundraising
  • Being well organized and attentive to detail
  • Confidence and commitment to JWI's mission and work.

Program Intern

JWI’s Program Department seeks a hardworking college student with strong writing and communications skills to intern in the department. Individuals with a demonstrated interest in women’s issues and policies such as violence against women, choice, financial literacy, domestic violence and sexual assault are strongly encouraged to apply. Day to day responsibilities include updating web content, writing blog posts, conducting research on pending legislation, marketing JWI’s programs, and special projects. Development Intern

JWI’s Development Department seeks an energetic, detail-oriented intern to provide support to the Development team. The Development Intern works on a variety of fundraising projects and activities, including JWI’s annual Women to Watch gala, the National Library Initiative, Mother’s Day Flower Project, and social media planning. The Development Intern also conducts foundation research using the web and traditional sources and works with the Marketing Team to help integrate fundraising activities into JWI’s marketing strategy. Ideal candidates must have excellent written and oral communication skills, proficiency with MS Word, and experience with Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote is desirable. Additionally, experience in online research is highly valued. The intern must be able to work independently, committed to progressive women’s issues, and available to come into the office at least 2 days a week. Marketing Intern

JWI’s Marketing Department seeks an energetic, detail-oriented intern to assist with the organization’s marketing and communications efforts as well as its premier publication, JW magazine. Duties include writing and editing for our website and newsletters, drafting press releases, and event promotion and marketing. The intern also will assist with promotion and advertising for the magazine as well as researching story ideas and short writing assignments. Good writing skills are essential. Magazine Intern

JWI's Marketing Department seeks a magazine intern to assist with its premier publication, JW magazine. Published online and in print, Jewish Woman offers women resources, insights and tips for everyday Jewish living and attracts readership and interest among a broad audience. Duties will include writing, research, editing, and proofreading for a variety of articles and short features. Interns will receive frequent writing assignments and also have an opportunity to propose their own stories and do original research. This internship is ideal for a Journalism student.
