7 best places to barbecue in Tokyo 2024

With the return of the warm summer evenings, many people in Tokyo like to organise fun barbecue evenings with friends or family. In many flat blocks in Japan, however, barbecues are not allowed for safety reasons, but don't worry: there are plenty of places dedicated to open-air barbecues in the Japanese capital! A great advantage of using these designated barbecue spots is that no one needs to clean up afterwards, and there's plenty of space to host even a large gathering if you wish. Some of these barbecue spots are better than others in terms of ambience and amenities, so let us help you choose with a list of the 7 best barbecue spots in Tokyo!

Showa Memorial Park Barbecue Garden

Tulipes du parc Showa Kinen

Enjoy the vast park and colourful flowers before or after your barbecue

Located in Tachikawa, one of Tokyo's suburbs, and easily accessible by train, Showa Memorial Park Barbecue Garden is the best barbecue venue for residents of Tokyo's western suburbs. The park itself offers hours of fun with beautiful seasonal flowers, a bonsai museum, a boating lake and hire bikes available to get around this large green oasis. When the weather is good, barbecue pitches go quickly, so you need to book in advance on their website to secure yours, including food and equipment. Food sets range from JPY1,500 to JPY5,000 per person, and if you don't bring your own equipment or crockery, you can hire a complete set including plates, cutlery and a table for JPY8,000. The barbecue areas are covered, so the fun won't be spoilt even in the event of a sudden downpour. Please note that the park has an entrance fee of JPY 450 per person (children under 16 are free) which must be paid in addition to the barbecue reservation.
